Nicole Baumgartner, LCPC, NCC

Nicole has been working with children and adolescents since before she can remember; it has always been something she wanted to incorporate into her career. Once she began her counseling training, she realized that she enjoys providing counseling to people of all ages and using different formats, whether it was individual, family, or group therapy.

Nicole attended Mount St. Mary’s University to obtain her bachelor’s degree and majored in Psychology.

She then went on to attend University of Baltimore to obtain her master’s degree.  While working on her degree, she worked in the public school setting specifically working one-on-one with students with disabilities. This experience provided a great deal of knowledge from the school setting aspect and helped Nicole to better understand the experience many parents and families endure who have children in the special education setting.

Since earning her master’s degree, Nicole has worked in the private practice setting for 6 years. She teaches parenting classes as an adjunct professor at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC).

Through her journey as a therapist, Nicole has learned the importance of building a strong, supportive, and caring relationship with her clients to provide an atmosphere that allows for growth and change. Nicole works with individuals and families of all ages. She specializes in working with children and adolescents, and also has experience working with parents in various settings to help increase their skills for more effective parenting. She sees a large population of teen clients, which is a population she passionately enjoys helping.

She uses an integration of counseling approaches and techniques that help to most effectively meet the needs of each individual client and/or family. Nicole often draws from a psychodynamic, client-centered, and cognitive-behavioral foundation. Some therapeutic approaches that may be incorporated into counseling sessions include play therapy, art therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and mindfulness. Nicole has received training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy to help clients who have experienced trauma. Nicole has experience with  anxiety, depression, anger management, ADHD, disruptive/impulse-control, trauma, family conflict, and adjustment issues.

Nicole is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC) in Maryland.
